The Music Den Academy

Offers music tuition to people aged 5+ and of all abilities in in our professionally built studio on Harpenden High Street and on location at Roundwood Park School and Katherine Warrington School. Our students get the chance to learn on high quality instruments, study for ABRSM, Trinity Guildhall, Rock School grades, or just for fun. 

Our team of tutors combine nearly 100 years experience in the music industry, both teaching and performing, ensuring you’ll benefit from a wealth of knowledge and options to choose what and how you learn.

When you choose The Music Den you’ll get the best tuition available in a specially designed (and completely immersive) learning environment. All of our lessons are taught at either the Harpenden Studio, Roundwood Park School, or Katherine Warrington School. Lessons are taught in either sessions of 30 or 60 mins.

Learn Drums

The basic principals required to play drums are applicable to all styles. Whether you are into progressive rock or small group jazz, the fundamentals are the same. Lessons are weekly and taught in 30 or 60 minute sessions.

Learn Piano

The basic principals required to play piano are applicable to all styles. Whether you are into Classical or Jazz, the fundamentals are the same. Lessons are weekly and taught in 30 or 60 min sessions on a grand piano.

Learn Guitar

The basic principals required to play the guitar are applicable to all styles. Whether you are into progressive rock or small group jazz, the fundamentals are the same. Lessons are weekly and taught in 30 or 60 min sessions.

Learn Bass Guitar

The basic principals required to play the bass guitar are applicable to all styles. Whether you are into progressive rock or small group jazz, the fundamentals are the same. Lessons are weekly and taught in 30 or 60 min sessions.

Music Den tutors possess the key skills to help our students fulfill their potential. Learning an instrument takes practice, patience, discipline, determination and above all hard work in order to succeed.

Darren has studied under two of the principal drum tutors in the UK, namely Bob Armstrong and Dave Hassell, both are fantastic teachers and a constant source or inspiration for his teaching ideals. Much of the material used by them is present in his teaching as he believes it forms the basis of a good playing technique, irrespective of style. Darren completed his studies for a degree in Music in 2001 – graduating with first class honours.

Drum Tutor
With over 15 years experience in teaching Matt joins our Roundwood Park School team offering lessons on a Wednesdays and Sundays. Matt is an experienced and creative drum teacher who strives to get the very best out of our pupils and demonstrates a high standard of professionalism along with a deep passion to support young aspiring musicians of all abilities.

Piano Tutor
Graduating from The Institute Of Contemporary Music in London, Josh is our Swiss Arm Knife! Not only is he a fantastic piano teacher, he also plays drums, guitar and tabla! Josh possesses that innate quality of not only being obsessive with his own self development, but is also adept at encouraging his students at The Music Den to strive for the high levels of attainment that he sets for himself.

Guitar Tutor
After graduating with a BA(Hons) degree in Popular Music and Music Technology George joins The Music Den team with over 10 years experience in teaching and performing. Along with teaching acoustic guitar, bass guitar and arranging, George has a wealth of knowledge of all styles of music that he is keen to pass on to his students at The Music Den.
